What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha refers simply to the practice of physical yoga postures, meaning your Ashtanga, vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga classes are all Hatha Yoga. The word “hatha” can be translated two ways: as “willful” or “forceful,” or the yoga of activity, and as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha), the yoga of balance. Hatha practices are designed to align and calm your body, mind, and spirit in preparation for meditation.

Breathing techniques are used to calm the mind, clear toxins from the body and and stimulate your organs and glands.

From the moment you begin to practice, the body becomes strong, toned and healthy, from the inside out. You'll never look back when it comes to improving your overall health.

There are a lot of misconceptions evolved over the years regarding what hatha yoga is?.  This misconception seems to differ from person to person with some describing hatha yoga as a slow paced gentle yoga, while others see it as a tougher practice where the asanas are held for a longer period , and so on.

I hope the above explanation helps you  to understand that most popular modern yoga is Hatha, what differs, is the style and the order in which the asanas and pranayama is offered.

Meet Hatha Yoga with Julie

I’m a certified, Yoga Teacher based in London, Brentford.

I have 7 years experience of running and instructing group classes, 1-1 private yoga sessions, corporate classes and yoga events.

I first discovered yoga in the nineties when I was just 18 years old and, from that moment I stepped into my first class, I felt the healing energy immediately, I have practiced ever since.

I have a complete love and passion for yoga and all things holistic .  Yoga and meditation has helped me to stay grounded and humble when things are good and strong and fearless when life throws a storm. I am forever grateful that I found Yoga and then meditation to support me through life, and want to share this with the world.

Yoga has taught me patience.  Physically internally and externally, yoga has given me a healthy flexible and strong body.

I believe in balance in life, as well as in our yoga practice and that a restorative practice, is as important as a dynamic practice.

I hold in person , group classes.  1-1 classes can be in person or via Zoom.

About my classes

My style of teaching comes from my love for the Sivananda, Ashtanga and Iyenger yoga styles.

All my classes are carefully tailored and planned to give students more insight into their bodies and minds and the benefits that are gained internally and externally from the yoga asanas, pranayama and mudras. I focus on correct alignment and proper breathing to let go of tension and  always end with a beautiful guided relaxation in savasana.

I incorporate moon practices on and around the full and new moons to help us to tap into the cooling feminine Luna / Chandra energy, set fresh  intentions for manifesting  and achieve balance between yin and yang practices.

In my schedules, you'll find online and in person classes. There is a good balance of  yin and yang, from dynamic vinyasa flows to yin/restorative and  more slower styles and flows.

I share my playlist with online students prior to classes so we can all zen together !!!
